Getting There

By Air

Ethiopian Airlines is the National carrier.
The main international airport is Addis Ababa (ADD) 8km from the city. there is a coach service to the city, and taxis are available.

By Rail

There is a railline to Djibouti, run jointly by the 2 countries.

By Road

There ia an all weather route from Kenya, which forms part of the Trans-East African highway, plus routes from Djibouti, and Sudan.

Getting Around

By Air

Ethiopian airlines run over 40 internal routes, some are infrequent, but there are plans to increase services with increases in tourist demand.

By Rail

There is only one ine running from addis Ababa to Djibouti via Dire Dawa. Service is a generally slow.

By Road

in general cities and larger towns are connected by good all weather routes. This includes many towns on the historic route.  Outside of these routes 4 x 4 is required.  Fuel shortages do occur and night driving is not reccommended.  Traffic drives on the right.
