There are ferries between Hurghada and Sharm-El-Sheik. Plus Feluccas (traditional sail boats) can be hired by the hour. Nile cruises operate between Cairo and Aswan or Luxor and Aswan. The Egyptian rail service is very comprehensive. There is a branch running from Cairo along the Nile to Luxor and Aswan, and an east to west branch from the Libya border via Alexandria to Cairo. Traffic drives on the right. there is an extensive tarred road network, in the Nile basin, and along both the Mediterraen coast and the Red Sea coast. The only area where driving is not reccommended is the desert region. Car hire is available but an international driving permit is required. Buses run regularly in the Nile Valley and along the coast roads. |
