Getting There

By Air

SAS and Sterling Airlines are the two national airlines.  Copenhagen (CPH), Kastrup airport is the main international airport.  The airport is situated 8 km out of the city and there is a bus and rail ink to the city, and connections onto Malmo in Sweden..

London Heathrow to Copenhagen  

Århus (AAR) (Tirstrup) is situated 27 miles from the city and is connected by buses and taxis.

By water

Pasenger ferries connect Denmark to Norway, Sweden, Germany and the UK.  Some services do not run in the winter months or may only offer a limited service.

By Rail

Copenhagen is linked with other major European cities by rail, and rail travel is relatively easy.  Passes are available through Rail Europe:

Eurail Germany and Denmark Pass :   unlimited travel in Denmark and Germany for up to 2 months.
Scanrail Pass : Allows unlimited travel in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland for a period of 5, 8 or 10 days in a two month period, or for 21 consecutive days.
Scanrail Youth Pass : same as above but special prices for those aged between 12 and 26. There is also a senior scanrail pas available for the over 60's.
Multiple Country Passes : check out a variety of multi country passes, including the Eurail global pass allowing access to 18 countries.

By Road

Copenhagen can be accessed via any major European road network, and is connected to mainland Europe by the second largest suspension bridge in the world.  There is a second bridge and tunnel, connecting Copenhagen with Malmo in Sweden.

Eurolines operate bus services throughout the continent.

Getting Around

By Air

Domestic flights run between Copenhagen, Ålborg, Århus, Billund, Esbjerg, Karup, Rønne, Skrydstrup, Sønderborg and Thisted.  Most flights take less than 30 minutes. 

By Water

There are frequent ferry sailings from Kalundborg to Århus, Ebeltoft to Sjællands Odde and Rønne to Copenhagen. Local car ferries link smaller islands to the main road network.

By Rail

Ålborg, Copenhagen, Esbjerg, Herning, Horsens, Odense and Randers are all connected by the National Train service. Booking is usually required.  Visitors to the country can purchase a Denmark Rail Passes this allows 3 days unlimited travel over a 1 month period.

By Road

Driving in on the right, car hire is always available to those over 25 and some fiorms will hire to people as young as 20.  The speeding laws are strictly enforced and on the spot fines can be issued.  Children under 12 must travel in the rear of the car.

There are many spoecific cycle tracks or cycle lanes alongside roads.

Copenhagen has bus and train service as well as the metro. The CPHCARD (Copenhagen Card) offers unlimited travel and entry to around 60 museums.
