Air France is the main European airline, but Air Cameroon and Ethiopiabn airlines also fly here. The main airport is N'Djamena which is 4 km from the city. Taxis are avaIlable. There is a departure tax to be paid before leaving usually sround XAF5000. There is currently no international rail network, there are plansd to connect with Cameroon. Most roads are untarred and become impassable during the rainy season. There are roads connecting Chad with central African Republic, cameroon, Sudan, Niger nd Nigeria. It is not posible to cross into the Sudan though, and bandits have been reported around the Cameroon border. |

Traffic drives on the right. It is advisable to carry spare fuel and travel in convoy. 4 x 4 is required and livestock are frenquently on the roads. Petrol is very expensive. |
